Some of my Favourite Clean Eating Foods Part 1

I'm going to share some of favourite clean food finds and how I use them. These are some of the foods I use as a way of keeping my healthy and clean eating in check when I am craving something sweet! I have split this into two separate posts, the first is my treats and the second is some things I like to use in cooking.

Nut Butters

I have to admit I am a bit of a spread fanatic… my cupboard is full of all different kinds of spreads, some clean and some not clean, but its all about moderation - right? Here is my infamous spread collection... and I am always on the hunt for new spreads so if anyone has any they would like to tell me about please do!

The Clean on the left and the naughty on the right!

Some of my favourite nut butters are ones I have made myself, including my Clean Nutella and my Cinnamon Maple Pecan Butter, but I also buy spreads, and some of my favourite store bought ones are Keen Almond Butter with Dark Chocolate, Nuts 'n More Toffee Peanut Butter Crunch and then my PB2 which I have in both varieties of plain and chocolate. These are available from health food shops and supplement stores such as Body First Nutrition

PB2 is a powdered peanut butter with 85% less fat than regular peanut butter. To make it into peanut butter you just mix 2tbsp of powder with 1tbsp of water. The ingredients are just peanuts, and a little salt, and for the chocolate variety there is cocoa powder added. So no nasty chemicals or additives here and it’s a great low fat alternative. It works great in baking and mixed into porridge or yoghurt for a yummy peanut butter taste.

Cacao nibs

These are like chocolate chips but with a hint of coffee; they are slightly more bitter than dark chocolate as they are pure cacao. I have added these to yoghurt or porridge and they are delicious.

I have yet to try them in baking, but I would imagine they could be quite nice as a chocolate chip alternative.

Again the difference between these and actual chocolate chips is that they are pure with no chemicals or additives and have zero added sugar.

Nakd Bars

These are a great find for a quick 'on the go' snack. They are available in health food shops and in many supermarkets. They come in loads of flavours, but my favourite is the cocoa orange flavour. These bars are 100% raw and have no additives. They consist of dates, nuts and other dried fruits. These bars again don’t have any added sugar so the only sugar is from the naturally occurring sugar found in the fruits.
